Optimization is the process of making code perform and use resources in the most efficient way.

Quality Settings

The Quality system gives you the ability to define quality levels and console variable settings to use for each quality level. Applications typically run on different hardware and need different settings to achieve the best performance on each device and accomodate user preferences.
